My Lil Swimmers

Sophie and Lydia graduated from swimming classes on Friday! They really enjoyed them and I will definatley be putting them in again next year....

Sophie loves going under water now and is comfortable jumping in! Before she wouldn't even get her head wet.

Lydia loves jumping too all by herself!

Now when we go swimming they jump in over and over again. They love it! They can go all over the pool with their life jackets. Lydia gets all excited and says "ice scoops!" (ice cream scoops) when she swims back to the lagoon to climb out and jump in again.

I am so proud of them!

Writing ABC's

Sophie has really gotten into spelling her name and writing her letters lately. Her favorite thing to do is to pull out our Scrabble Slam card game and find the letters to her name and lay it out. We have been practicing writing her letters too. I show her a picture of the letter and she copies it. Here is the first word she has written besides her name...

Can you tell what it says? (She had to continue it on the second line since she ran out of room)

Ice Keem!

Saturday was our Ward's Fire and Ice. We made ice cream for it and I learned an important lesson. Never use a recipe you have never done before when you have to take it somewhere for many people to try. I made this mistake and the ice cream tasted like frozen milk not cookie dough. Boo.

The girls had a lot of fun playing with all of the kids in the ward. The overflow was a like a war zone with balls flying everywhere, but they were all happy. When we were taking the ice cream out to the tables to serve, Lydia was chasing me and screaming "ice keem ice keem!!!!"

She definatley enjoyed tasting all the flavors....

She even put her face in it, but I am not sure if it was because the ice cream was so good or because it was extremely hot in the cultural hall with no air conditioning.....probably both.

Swimming Lessons

The Tucson Police gave a grant to the parks and rec department for swimming classes this year. Which meant it was only $2 a session for classes instead of $15. So we signed the girls up! They have finished the first of the two weeks and they absolutely love it!

Sophie is getting really good at practicing her kicks and "ice cream scoop hands" Lydia does ok but she does not like that I have to hold her. She would rather run free in the pool  and drown herself. I thought she wasn't learning anything but when we went to my mom's pool on Friday she wore a life jacket and did kicks and ice cream scoops all over the pool! Apparently she just wants to be free.

Sarah's Baby Shower!!

Saturday was Sarah's baby shower!! She is having a little boy and I am so excited!

I had a lot of fun planning her shower. His nursery is all about baseball so I made invitations that looked like baseball tickets...

We had a concessions table...

with lots of yummy food like pretzel bites,  fruit pizza cookies, veggie cups, and caprice salad bites...

We also had a popcorn station with cake batter popcorn and butter popcorn. My mom and I made these toally cute popcorn boxes. They said "Lil Slugger Jackson" with the Cubs logo on them. Sadly I didnt get a close up picture but they are in this picture...

and our drink table....Jeanette made cute labels for all of the water bottles and fun mason jars to drink out of...

With the help of my wonderful Mother-in-Law I made a sign for Jackson, the concessions sign, and some fun onesies...

My cousin Amber made some adorable sugar cookie favors...

And Jeanette made some cute cracker jack favors too...

Thank you Mom, Mom Clayton, Jeanette, Amber, and Aunt Linda for all of your help!!  Cant wait to meet Little Jackson in a few weeks!!!

The Coolest and Sadest Monsoon I have ever Seen!

Last night we were reading scriptures with the girls and getting them ready for bed. It had been thundering for awhile and then when Chad started to explain the scripture to them it started hailing like crazy and the power went out. We stood at the window and watched the most insane monsoon I had ever seen! Our tree was bent in half, our recycles were flying everywhere and the hail was insanely loud.

video

It was all really cool and fun to watch until I realized....Our Garden!

Totally destroyed...so sad. But at least our tree made it!

Here is our front porch after the storm finally stopped....

It looked just like Sonic Ice had just been dumped there. We were able to keep the girls calm so they could go to bed without being scared. But with the power out that meant no night light. Which I knew Sophie would have issues with. Chad got creative and ran out into the storm and retrieved one of our solar porch lights!

It was a little bright so we wrapped it up in a towel. It worked perfectly! Nice to know we have those for these situations. Thank goodness for my smart hubby I'm not sure it would have even crossed my mind.

Going to the Temple

With Chad's new job he gets to travel to Phoenix once a month. On Friday we all went with him! We dropped him off at work and then went and played. We had a little bit of time before the mall opened so we hung out at Michaels. I discovered that Lydia has a purse fetish...

I took the girls to play at the play area in the mall. They had a blast and it was nice because it was not crowded at all. I never like going to Park Place Mall here because there are always a million kids packed in there.

Then we headed and picked up Chad from work! My cousin Amber was awesome and watched the girls for us! She lives really close to the Temple so it made it nice! Sophie was beyond excited to spend time with her again! They had a lot of fun...

She took them to a cute splash park!

It was a fun day! We are really liking Daddy's new job!!

Photo Shoot

Back in February We headed to Phoenix with the girls. Amber was nice enough to watch the girls for us so we could go to the Temple. The girls had a blast and Sophie could not stop talking about Amber after that day.  Amber took a lot of really cute pictures of the girls and I thought I would share a couple of my favorites...

Lydia used to pose like this all the time. I loved it!

Classic Sophie pose for the camera.

I don't know why she thinks she always needs to tilt her head.

This one by far is my favorite!! It just shows their personalities perfectly!

And finally the classic Lydia grin. What a goofball.

It is amazing how much Lydia has changed in such a short time. Thank you Amber for the fun day and cute pictures!!

Boise Vacation The End

On Monday we headed back home. The girls and I rode home with Grandma Clayton (she was one brave soul traveling 2 long days with Lydia in the car). Although Lydia was much better than I had expected. She had some pretty goofy moments...

And many moments of trying to escape her car seat. We stopped in Brigham City and checked out the new Temple that is almost done...

And the Tabernacle across the street...

Once we hit Phoenix we got really excited because we were almost home! Then we got stuck in traffic. Then we got close to Picacho Peak and off to the side it looked like large smoke clouds. I called Chad and asked if there were fires but he said he hadn't heard of any. Then a few minutes later we found out that it was a giant dust storm and were caught in the middle of it! Sadly I had only taken pictures on my cell but this is basically what it was like...

I guess they call these dust storms "Haboobs" and several people die in accidents in them every year. We pulled over and watched crazy people walking around outside around an accident and called 911 to report it. I don't know how long it lasted but it was kind of scary. Then we realized all of our stuff was going to be full of dust in the back of the truck. Once we finally got out of the haboob....it rained. Awesome. But we made it home in one piece!

It was such a fun vacation! But it was nice to get home! The girls were beyond excited to be home and sleep in their own beds. Sophie jumped onto her bed and said "I missed you!!"

Boise Vacation Part 7

Kimberley cut every ones hair while on vacation even Miss Sophie...

This was Sophie's first haircut. I never cut it because I didn't want her to lose the cute curl at the bottom, but it started looking pretty scraggly so it was time. I thought she would not be ok with it but she was pretty excited. She did tell Aunt Kimberly that she didn't want it short like mine...silly girl. In the end she still has the cute curl and it looks much better!

The last part of our vacation was a Family Reunion at Chad's Grandparent's house. The theme was Luau and Mom made all the fun shirts for everyone!

There were games to play...

And a ton of yummy food...I think Lydia liked that part especially...

And lots of sunscreen...

Uncle Duane had his new puppy there. She was such a sweet dog and Lydia fell in love....

We also made beads for Ben's Bells which was a lot of fun....

and Chad's cousin Angie took family pictures..

The day before we left we did Book of Mormon Journey with all of the kids. We talked about Ammon defending the flocks. The kids got to make sheep out of marshmallows and candy...

The next day we all headed home....
