Grandma's Irises

My Grandma Buchanan loved irises. They were her favorite flower and Iris was her middle name. We named Sophie Iris after her. At her funeral about 8 years ago we all laid an iris on her coffin. My wonderful Aunt Barbara gave all of the grandchildren and great grandchildren an iris bulb that we could plant to help us remember Grandma. She spent a lot of time getting a different type of iris for each person that matched their personalities. I can't remember the name of mine but I sure love the color. So does Lydia....can't imagine why.....

My parents have had them in their garden ever since and now that we have a place in our backyard they sent some home with me. Sunday we got our first blooms!! I was so excited to see that I had actually gotten my iris!

A couple of the blooms look a little sad because we had a huge wind storm yesterday. I was just glad they survived. I stressed over them all day.

It is so nice to look out the window and be reminded of my sweet Grandma.

Flying Kites

We took the girls out to try and fly their kites the other day.

It didn't work out so well. We spent more time untangling Lydia from string, untangling the two kites, and holding the kites up.

The wind was just so inconsistent, but I think they still had fun even if the kites didn't fly.

Easter Fun

This year for Easter we did our 7 days of Easter again to teach the girls the story of Christ. They really enjoyed it and remembered the meaning much better this time. After my baby shower we headed over to Grandma and Grandpa Clayton's to celebrate Grandpa's Birthday. And the girls got to dye Easter eggs.

They really did have fun even though it doesn't look like it from their faces in this picture. Easter morning the girls were excited for their baskets...

They got kites (pink and purple of course), fairy barbies, swim goggles, and princess gloves. Got to love the dollar store! They of course had to wear their gloves with their Easter dresses...

after church we headed to Grandma and Grandpa Miller's house. Everyone was there and we had a big Easter egg hunt. There was over 400 eggs for the kids to find...

Sophie collected so many eggs she had to re hide several (the kids have to stop when they reach a certain number). It took a bit for Lydia to get into it. She even put down her basket at one point and just wandered around. But she eventually collected all her eggs and they were pretty excited.

My Baby Shower

My wonderful sister put on a baby shower for me in an awesome Boise State theme!

Jeanette helped with the decorations too and I think everything turned out really cute! Sarah and my Mom dipped strawberries and made them look like footballs for the favors...

Sarah displayed the quilt I made for Baby Roc and some cute blankets from my Mom ....

And this cute bear Aimee made....

Here is the amazing food table! Full of deliciousness....

Jeanette made the deviled eggs look like footballs...so clever...

And a really cool goal post Jeff made! I thought it was pretty awesome!

Thank you Sarah, Mom, Jeanette, and Jeff for an wonderful baby shower! You guys are the best!!

Cousin Fun

Last week Aimee and her kids were able to come down to Tucson and visit. It was fun to see them and my girls were insanely excited to spend time with Amea and Ty-Kell. They went shooting and were excellent arrow collectors...

We all jumped in Eleanor and headed to the zoo...

And we went to the Children's Museum. They especially enjoyed the little grocery store...

They all took turns being cashiers. Ty-kell's products were quite expensive. I believe he charged Grandpa $20 for cheese. But he was the one to go to for cereal you could get a killer deal.  Lydia on the other hand was a little salesman. Every time I came to check out she said I had to get more because I wasn't buying enough.

They had so much fun together and Sophie is already counting the days until we get to see them again this summer.

Funny Sophie

Sophie drew a picture of me the other day and I thought I would share. If your looking for a self esteem boost don't have Sophie draw you...she draws it how she sees it.

You may be thinking why are you wearing a bib? Nope that would be my stomach until she realized it "was too small to be your tummy mom" and drew the bigger circle. Now when she drew Chad he had arms and legs...apparently I am all tummy.

The other night she came out of her room and told me Lydia wanted me to sleep with her in her bed. "But I don't think it's a good idea mom because your too big and you'll break the bed."

Thanks Sophie

Recent Happenings

A couple weeks ago my sister was able to quit her job. Which is awesome because she finally gets to stay home with her cute little man. We got to watch him while she worked and he was a lot of fun to have around. The girls definitely miss him. Especially Sophie she was such a little mom...

She would feed him and do baby talk. Both of the girls were just so awesome and helpful with him so I am pretty excited for Baby Roc to come. I think they will be too, they loved having a baby in the house.

Thanks to our tax return we were finally able to do something to our backyard!

Am I excited about rocks? Yes I am! No more dirt and thorns! The girls will actually go in the backyard and play now too! We put in pea gravel so it is much softer than gravel. Lydia likes to run around barefoot and lay in it. We also filled all of our planter boxes with dirt. Plants are to come :)
Goodbye dirt...we do not miss you at all.
